City of Lapeer Police Department investigating armed robbery
an armed robbery that just occurred at the Holiday Inn Express on Demille Rd. in the City of Lapeer. The caller described a white male, 20-30 years of age, approximately six-foot tall, thin build, wearing a large black puffy coat with a hood, entering the lobby area, approaching the front desk, and demanding money. A small handgun, silver in color, was brandished during the incident. The employee complied with the suspects request, giving him an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect left the building on foot toward the south. No one was injured during the incident.
Officers from the City of Lapeer Police Department, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department, and Michigan State Police responded to the scene. A thorough search of the area was completed with the assistance of the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department K9 Unit but was unsuccessful at locating the suspect. It is unknown at this time if a vehicle was involved with the incident.
A preliminary examination of surveillance video from the scene revealed that the suspect approached the entrance on foot from the south. It was also observed that the suspect was wearing light colored athletic style pants (tight at the ankle) and dark shoes with white design markings. Additional video analysis is expected to be completed in the future.
