PRESS RELEASE: 10/8/22 Fatal Traffic Crash

On Saturday, October 8, 2022, at approximately 4:40am, officers from the City of Lapeer Police Department responded to a report a personal injury crash that occurred at South Lapeer Road (M-24) and the eastbound I-69 exit ramp. The preliminary investigation found that three vehicles were involved with the crash. A 2009 Dodge Avenger, being driven by an 18-year-old female from Davison was exiting eastbound I[1]69 onto northbound M-24. As the Dodge Avenger was entering onto M-24, the vehicle was struck by a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, being driven southbound on M-24 by a 46-year-old male from Fostoria. After the crash, the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado exited his vehicle to call 911. After the driver exited his vehicle a 2018 Jeep Compass travelling southbound on M-24, being driven by a 61-year-old male from North Branch, crashed into the Chevrolet Silverado. This second crash caused the Chevrolet Silverado to strike the 46-year-old male who was standing outside the vehicle. The 46-year-old male and the 18-year-old female were transported to the McLaren-Lapeer Region Hospital Emergency by Lapeer County EMS. The 18-year-old female was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital. The 46-year-old male was treated for minor injuries.The Lapeer County Accident Reconstruction Team, which consisted of officers from the City of Lapeer Police Department, Metamora Township Police Department, and the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. Members of the Victim Services Unit were also contacted and responded. The traffic crash remains under investigation.
