The City of Lapeer Police Department says they have received multiple reports of stolen bikes over the last week.

According to police, many times, bike theft is a crime of opportunity.

Officers encourage all bike owners to ensure their bikes are always secured when left unattended by using a bike lock. While there are may kinds of bike locks, it is recommended to use a U-Lock to secure the frame and wheel rim to the rack.

It is also a recommended to keep records of your bike and other personal property serial numbers.
