Preschool Aquatic Details:
Gym & Swim for Toddlers (19 months to 3 yrs.)
Parent and child participation in exercises, tumbling and gym activities
followed by a Micro Fish 2 swim lesson.

Preschool 1 (3 to 5 yrs.)
No swimming or gymnastic experience necessary. All skills and gymnastic
equipment are scaled down to accommodate child’s size and ability.

Micro Fish 1 (6 months to
18 months)
Adult participation required. This class is designed to introduce
and accustom your young child to the water. Participating adults
will learn holding positions, cues, passing, drafting, floating,
scooping, arm/leg action and safety skills.

Micro Fish 2 (19
months to 3 yrs. & older)
Adult participation required. This class is designed for toddlers
and preschool children who are not ready to participate in lessons
on their own. This course is similar to the Micro Fish 1 class with
added skills to challenge older children.

Mini Fish 1 (3 to 5 yrs.)
No adult participation required. This class is for young children
who are ready to participate in lessons on their own. Teaches arm
& leg action, breath control, floating, gliding & water
safety.

Mini Fish 2 (3 to 5 yrs.)
Prerequisite: Children who have passed Mini Fish 1 skills.

Mini Fish 3 (3 to 5 yrs.)

Youth Aquatic Details:
Level 1 (6 yrs. and older)
Water exploration for children who have little or no experience
in the water. They will work on breath control, retrieving submerged
objects, front/back floating, front/back arm & leg action, changing
directions, rolling over, and water safety skills.

Level 2 (6 yrs. and older)
Primary skills for children who can put their face in the water
for at least 3 seconds. Children must also know how to do an unsupported
front & back float and the front/back arm & leg action.
They will continue to work on Level 1 skills and be introduced
to finning, sculling, front/back glides, swimming on the side and
water safety skills.

Level 3 (6 yrs. and older)
Stroke development for students who have earned a Level
2 certificate. This class will continue to build on skills in Level
2. Students will learn to coordinate the front/back crawl,
rotary breathing, head first entries, elements of the butterfly,
survival floating, and water safety skills.

Level 4 (6 yrs. and older)
Stroke improvement for students who have earned a Level 3 certificate.
Students will increase their endurance and continue to build on
the butterfly and Level 3 skills. They will be introduced
to the elementary backstroke, breaststroke, elements of the sidestroke,
feet first surface dives, compact dives, underwater swimming, open
turns, and water safety skills.

Level 5 (6 yrs. and older)
Stroke refinement or students who have earned a Level 4 certificate.
The objective is coordination and refinement of all strokes, in
addition to increased endurance and continued work on Level 4 skills.
Flip turns, tuck & pike surface dives, standing dives and the
sidestroke are introduced as well as water safety skills.

Level 6 (6 yrs. and older)
Swimming and skill proficiency for students who have earned a Level
5 certificate. The objective is to refine strokes so students swim
them with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater
distances. level 6 is designed with "menu" options:
Personal Water Safety, Fitness Swimmer and Lifeguard Readiness.
We will customize this level to meet the needs of the participants.

Diving Dolphins
Young divers in grades 1-4 must be able to swim a length of the pool and not be afraid of the deep water. No previous diving experience is necessary. Diving progressions will be determined by each student's skills. They will include torpedoing, porpoising, sitting, kneeling, compact, stride and standing dives off the side of the pool. Diving board skills will include an introduction to the approach, hurdle, and take-off. Controlled jumps and forward dives will be taught. All divers will progress at their own rate. Diving safety will be stressed

Beginning Diving
This class is an introduction to diving board skills. Students
must be able to perform a standing front dive from the end
of the diving board and swim two continuous lengths of the
pool in good form. The first two weeks of this class will focus
on floor work only, if necessary. This will include drills
and practicing the approach, the hurdle, and the take-off.
Board work will begin the third week. This class is an excellent
preparation for Lapeer High Schools’ Varsity Swimming & Diving
Team. Must be in grades 5-12.

Advanced Diving
Divers must have completed Beginning Diving and have perfected the 4-step approach, hurdle and take-off, or instructors approval. The goal of this class will be to have each diver execute a front, back, inward, reverse, and twisting dive in addition to a front 1-1/2 somersault. This class is highly recommended for High School Varsity divers. Must be in grades 7-12. This class is comined with the Beginning Divers. Class size limited.

Lapeer Swim Club Summer & Fall only
Swim with the SPLASH! – the City of Lapeer Community Center’s
very own swim team. Our focus will be stroke development and
technique while building speed and endurance. Team members
will also work on competitive starts and turns. We are planning
meets and will complete against other swim clubs to add a little
fun and competition. Coaches are American Red Cross Water Safety
Instructors and Safety Training for Swim Coaches certified.

Teen Aquatic Details:
Teen/Adult Learn to Swim
This class is designed for people who want to learn
beginning swim skills in a relaxed and enjoyable
atmosphere.

Teen/Adult Stroke Development
This class is designed to review basic swim skills already learned.
Further development of front crawl, back crawl, elementary
backstroke and sidestroke will be covered.

Teen/Adult Stroke Refinement
This class is designed for intermediate swimmers who would like
to improve their strokes and be introduced to the breastroke
and butterfly. This course will also develop endurance and is
an excellent preparation for Lifeguard Training and Water Safety
Instructor courses.

Club Grades (7 - 12) Summer only
The Lapeer Swim Club is open to students of all
skill levels interested in competitive swimming.
We are planning meets and
will compete against other swim clubs to add a little fun and
competition. This session will also be a great pre-season activity
for those students planning on participating in Lapeer High Schools’
Varsity Swimming & Diving
Team.

Lifeguard Training
This American Red Cross course will teach the candidate the skills
and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.
The course also includes CPR and First Aid certification. This
is one of the nationally recognized courses required to be
a lifeguard. To achieve certification, the candidate must pass
the written test with a minimum of 80%, pass the skills test
and must attend all classes.

Water Safety Instructor (W.S.I.)
This course trains you to teach the American Red Cross Learn
to Swim program. To become certified you must attend all classes,
pass all swimming skills, and pass the written test with a
minimum of 80%.
