The Presidential Primary is a closed primary. You will be required to select a ballot type. The two selections for City of Lapeer residents are:

Democratic Party Presidential Primary Ballot

Republican Party Presidential Primary Ballot

If a voter refuses to select a ballot type, a ballot CAN NOT be issued.

Neither the City Clerk nor precinct inspectors can discuss the content of the ballot with the voter. Should there be any questions regarding the candidates listed on the ballot, please contact the Michigan Department of State's Bureau of Elections at 517-373-2540.

What are the criteria for voting by absentee ballot?

If you are a registered voter within the City of Lapeer and meet one of the qualifications listed below, you may obtain an Absentee Voter Ballot from the Lapeer City Clerk's office by submitting a request for an absentee voter ballot application online. Using the online service is a request for an Absentee Ballot Application, not the absentee ballot itself.

You expect to be absent from the community in which you are registered for the entire time the polls are open on Election Day
You are physically unable to attend the polls without the assistance of another
You cannot attend the polls because of the tenets of your religion
You have been appointed an election precinct inspector in a precinct other than the precinct where you reside
You are 60 years of age or older
You cannot attend the polls because you are confined to jail awaiting arraignment
