The Lapeer Police Department works closely with our schools to
educate our children on drug awareness. If you
are interested in arranging a visit to discuss
one of the following programs, please call (810)
664-0833. DARE – Drug, Awareness, Resistance, Education
This program takes place in our 5th grade elementary
schools. The program lasts for 16 weeks and is taught by Officer
A.J. Wetzel. It teaches the students how to resist temptations
of using drugs and peer pressure from other students.
School Resource Officer Continues Drug Education
in High School
We also have a School Resource Officer (SRO),
Officer Brian Wenzel, who works with Lapeer East High School and
Lapeer West High School by taking complaints from students and
staff and acting as a liaison between the students and the police
department. He also instructs a program called TEAM – Teaching,
Educating, and Mentoring. This is a high school follow-up program
to DARE.
