the development activities throughout the City
and ensuring compliance with ordinances and procedures,
in an effort to foster quality growth.

Duties
Our Planning and Zoning Division:
- Reviews applications for site
plans, special use permits, rezoning requests,
variances and makes recommendations to the Planning
Commission, City Commission or Zoning Board of
Appeals.
- Coordinates the development
review process with other City departments,
City engineer, Building Department and
other
outside agencies, from conceptual plan submittal
through engineering review, permits, construction
inspections, to final occupancy.
- Issues water, sanitary sewer
and right-of-way permits for new construction
and building additions/modifications. Building
permits,
occupancy permits and sign permits are obtained
from the City of Lapeer Building Department.
- Provides assistance to residents
inquiring about the City’s ordinances and policies
on such topics as signage, fences, home occupations,
permitted land uses, etc.
