Specialty Classes

PRE/YOUNG TEEN BEGINNER SWIM LESSONS-  This class is designed for 10-13 year olds who want to learn beginning and intermediate swimming skills.

TEEN/ADULT LEARN TO SWIM-  This class is designed for individuals 14 years and older with little or no swimming experience.  The skills introduced will depend on the expressed needs of the participants in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

TEEN/ADULT STROKE DEVELOPMENT-  This class is designed to review basic swim skills already learned.  Swimmers 14 years and older can further develop the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke.

TEEN/ADULT STROKE REFINEMENT-  This class is designed for intermediate swimmers 14 years and older who would like to improve their strokes and be introduced to the breaststroke and butterfly.  This course will also develop endurance and is an excellent preparation for Lifeguard Training and Water Safety Instructor courses.

TRIATHLON TUNE-UP-  Prepare for upcoming Triathlons!  We can help tune-up your free-style, improve your flip turn and increase your speed and endurance.

COMPETITIVE SWIM CAMP-  No previous experience with competitive swimming necessary.  Students must be able to swim the front crawl (freestyle) for at least two lengths of the pool.  Camp will touch on four competitive strokes along with speed, endurance, starts, and turns.  This is NOT a learn to swim class.  A learn to swim class is a better alternative if you need more stroke technique.  Grades 1-12. Will hopefully bring back once there is more interest. 

LAPEER “SPLASH” SWIM CLUB-  The City of Lapeer Community Center’s very own swim club.  Our focus will be stroke technique, speed, endurance, competitive starts and turns. This is NOT a learn to swim class. Students must swim the front crawl (freestyle) for at least two lengths of the pool.  Session will end with an Invitational swim meet.  Grades 1-12. Will hopefully bring back once there is more interest. 

DIVING DOLPHINS-  Young divers in grades 1-4 must be able to swim a length of the pool and not be afraid of the deep water. No previous diving experience is necessary.  Diving progressions will be determined by each student’s skills.  They will include surface dives, torpedoing, porpoising, sitting, kneeling, compact, stride, standing and shallow angle dives off the side of the pool.  Diving board skills will include an introduction to the 4-step approach and hurdle.  Controlled jumps and forward dives will be taught.  All divers will progress at their own rate.  Diving safety will be stressed and rules for safe diving will be taught.

BEGINNING DIVING-  This class is an introduction to diving board skills.  Students must be able to perform a standing front dive from the end of the diving board and swim two continuous lengths of the pool in good form.  Floor work on the approach, hurdle, and take-off will be practiced as well as in the pool.  Must be in grades 5-12 or have teacher recommendation.

ADVANCED DIVING
-  Divers must have completed Beginning Diving and have perfected the 4-step approach, hurdle, and take-off, or have instructors approval.  This class will also introduce a front, back, inward, reverse, and twisting dives.  Must be in grades 6-12.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING-BLENDED LEARNING-  This Blended Learning American Red Cross course for Professional Lifeguards will also include CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.  Portions include mandatory on-line training to be done at home and the rest of the class will be held at the City of Lapeer Community Center.  After successfully completing the pre-swimming skills test, registering, attending all classes, passing all on-line assignments, passing the land, water, & written skills test you will earn your LGT card.  Dates and times vary depending on season.  Check our quarterly brochure for more information.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR-BLENDED LEARNING-  This Blended Learning American Red Cross course will include mandatory on-line training to be done at home and the rest of the class will be held at the City of Lapeer Community Center. After successfully completing the pre-swimming skills test, registering, attending all classes, passing the skills & written tests you will be trained to teach the American Red cross Learn-to Swim program.  Dates and times vary depending on season. PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS-  Private, semi-private, small group or arranged classes are available for children (toddlers, preschoolers and grade school) and adults who would like to work on the special skills or who are in need of individual  instruction.  Daytime and afternoon classes are available.  The format of the class will vary to meet the needs of each student. These lessons are available in four 30 minute classes.

PRESCHOOL PLAYGROUND-  Come to play, meet new friends. Romp and run, join the fun!  Children will have a FUNTASTIC time interacting and playing, under their parent’s supervision, on our preschool-size gymnastic, tumbling and playtime equipment.  (Staff supervision is not provided for this activity).  Make it an extra special day and come to our Lunchtime Leisure side swim time too!
