Fire Chief

Mike Vogt has served as the Fire Chief for the City of Lapeer since October of 2021.  His primary responsibilities include department administration, financial management, human resources, and strategic planning.  Chief Vogt is a part of the City’s management team and maintains relationships with other city, county, and state agencies.

Chief Vogt began his fire service career as a paid-on-call firefighter with the City of Mt. Morris in 2002.   Chief Vogt held positions of Engineer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Fire Chief, and Fire Chief before leaving for the City of Burton Fire Department in 2019.   In the fall of 2019, Chief Vogt was hired as the Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal for the City of Burton Fire Department; the position he held before coming to Lapeer.  Chief Vogt also served 13 years as an emergency dispatcher and emergency dispatch supervisor with Genesee County 911. 

Chief Vogt is licensed in the State of Michigan as a Certified Fire Inspector, Fire Protection System Inspector, Fire Protection System Plan Reviewer, Building Official, and Emergency Medical Technician.  Additionally, he is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator and Fire Investigation Technician.  Chief Vogt received Summa Cum Laude honors for his bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration with a concentration in Fire Investigation and is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University’s Fire Staff and Command Executive Leadership Program.
