What are the requirements to register to vote?
- You must be a citizen of the United States.
- You must be a resident of the State
of Michigan and will be at least a 30-day resident of the
city by election day.
- You must be at least 18 years of age by
election day.

How do I register to vote?
You may register to vote at your local Secretary of State Office,
your City, Township or Village Clerk’s office, the County Clerk’s
office, specified agency offices within the Department of Public
Heath, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Department of Social
Services, and the Department of Mental Health.
Top What do I do if I lose my voter registration card?
A new card can be obtained from your clerk.
Top How do I change my address for my voter registration?
You may change your address by filling out a new voter registration
form at any of the aforementioned clerks’ offices or other designated
agencies.

When is the last day to register to vote prior to an election?
You must be registered 30 days prior to the election. The official
“last day to register” is always published prior to each election.

How do I request an absentee ballot?
Request an Application for an Absentee Ballot by completing our
quick online form. If you meet the voting criteria, we will mail
you the application. Upon receipt of the signed application,
the Clerk’s office will process the application and mail it to
the voter. A ballot cannot be given to anyone other than the
voter who requested the ballot.

How do I get a petition to run for City Commission and what are the requirements
to run for City Commission?
A petition can be obtained at the City Clerk’s office. The minimum
signature requirements per City Charter is 30 and no more than 60
signatures of registered voters within the City of Lapeer. The candidate
must be a resident of the City of Lapeer for at least one (1) year
immediately prior to the last day for filing the original petition
for office of City Commissioner or Mayor, be a qualified and registered
voter of the City of Lapeer, and not a defaulter to the City of
Lapeer.

Where do I vote?
The City of Lapeer has four precincts. Please note that you can only vote in the precinct where your residence is located.
